Professor Mark O'Donnell Varicose Vein and Vascular Surgery Clinic Belfast

Professor Mark O’Donnell is a highly accomplished Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon with extensive experience across both NHS and private healthcare sectors. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disease, including minimally invasive endovenous treatments (keyhole procedures) such as radiofrequency ablation, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy, and microsclerotherapy, as well as complex and recurrent varicose vein surgery such as phlebectomy/avulsions, ligation and stripping. He provides consultations and treatment across multiple private hospitals in Northern Ireland, including Kingsbridge Private Hospital, Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West and the Ulster Independent Clinic.

A graduate of Queen’s University Belfast with distinction, Professor O’Donnell completed his surgical training through the Northern Ireland Surgical Training Rotation, followed by a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, USA, where he was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery. He achieved the UEMS Vascular Gold Medal for first place in the European Board of Vascular Surgery Examination and holds a Medical Doctorate and Master of Medical Science in Education.

Professor O’Donnell has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, presented internationally, and remains actively involved in academic research, simulation training, and education. A Visiting Professor at Ulster University, he lectures widely and contributes to healthcare quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme.
